The last day of an amazing year!  Happy New Year!!!

Gosh, I cannot believe what we at Cyprus Open Studios have achieved in this last year… it feels almost surreal – like living in a Dali or Magritte painting!

We have launched a new era in viewing and appreciating art in Cyprus. 2016 was a quite extraordinary experience. The public and the creators came together like long-lost friends and new bonds were forged. Many participants in the 2016 Cyprus Open Studios have been commissioned to do work for discerning clients. And many more had really extraordinary sales during their open weekends and big plans were made for the future.

This year has opened new horizons for us. Let’s not dwell on those things that jarred and spoiled our perception of the world. We need to think about the positive impact we, as leaders in the creative process, are making. There have been so many negative influences, but if you are tuned into the bigger picture, the possibilities that have been created by these influences far out-weigh the negative! So many of these ‘happenings’ loosened the creative juices in many of us and amazing pieces of art emerged as a result. Let’s keep moving forward in the year ahead of us.

Registration for the 2017 Cyprus Open Studios event opens on 2 January 2017. We have given the old website a face-lift and we have launched a new dimension introducing Cyprus Open Galleries.

In 2017 each participant will have a page on our website with 8 images (instead of 4 as before) to show their skills. In addition to participating artists and artisans in their individual capacities, we are collaborating with a gallery in each region to host a maximum of six established artists in a curated exhibition at a juicy venue.

We are planning specifically to focus on one region per week in October 2017, Paphos coming up first because of Pafos2017. Next, we’ll move to Nicosia and after that it will be Limassol and Larnaca taking their turns. We are lining up exciting galleries who will be working closely with Cyprus Open Studios and Cyprus Open Galleries. We will soon have all the details to publish on the website – watch the space!

If this is not enough to whet your appetite, for the first time ever COS is taking a number of artists to the Royal Academy of Arts’ Summer Exhibition in London! And if you are refused at that prestigious institution, you automatically qualify for the Salon des Refuses exhibition that follows in June of 2017. Marina Emphietzi-Harris, one of the three COS partners, is taking responsibility for arranging this and we salute her for taking on such an enormous task.
